Britcar Endurance and Caterham Motorsport make a splash at Snetterton

The British Automobile Racing Club battled the elements at Snetterton this past Saturday (August 29) as the Britcar Endurance Championship, Caterham Motorsport and Track Action Racing Club each played their part in a captivating race day in Norfolk.

Making the first of two visits to the 2.99-mile circuit over the coming weeks, those in attendance found themselves greeted with challenging conditions as the warm sunshine of recent months was replaced by persistent heavy rain.

Having served up plenty of entertainment at the start of August around Donington Park, the Britcar Endurance Championship took another step closer to the end of its 2026 season by staging a thrilling 90-minute contest.

SG Racing’s Mark Cunningham and Peter Cunningham paced the opposition to snare pole position in qualifying however the Porsche 991.2 Cup duo were unable to stop Safesite/Hills Motorsport from reigning supreme when it came to the race.

At the wheel of their Ginetta G55 Supercup car, Michael Knibbs and Aiden Hills - who compete in the GT Class - fought their way forward from ninth on the grid to ultimately triumph by more than eight seconds.

Simon Clark in the FormEvo Racing McLaren 570S was another of the ‘big movers’ of the course of the race as he went from eighth to second. Completing the podium meanwhile was the UBER GT Performance entry of Bill Caley and James Caley in their own Porsche 991.2 Cup.

Atrocious weather conditions, coupled with several appearances by the safety car, ensured that the Caterham 3 Hours of 300 had everyone on the edge of their seats that were watching both trackside and online.

Billed as Caterham Motorsport’s second non-championship endurance encounter in as many years, competitors from the Bilstein Caterham Roadsport Championship, FanDrive Caterham Seven 270R Championship and Vertex Caterham Seven 310R Championship were the ones battling for honours.

The 180-minute bout saw its fair share of thrills and spills play out along the way but in the end, the trio of Stephen Harris, Charlie Lower and Harry Senior - running under ‘The Governor’s Crew’ banner - emerged victorious in their 310R machine.

Harris, Lower and Senior triumphed a full lap ahead of their nearest challengers, which were single-driver entries of Louis Darling and Richard Haigh.

Rounding out the day’s action at Snetterton were two races from the Track Action Racing Club, which is organised and promoted by the same team that are behind the Junior Saloon Car Championship.

Rod Birley - who has become synonymous for clinching hundreds of race wins at Brands Hatch down the years - proved to be the man to beat as he twice got the better of Gareth Porter to triumph in his BMW E36.
