Porsche reveals new GT3-based 911 Challenge race car

Porsche has launched a new entry-level race car, the 911 Challenge, that will hit the track in the Porsche Carwow Sprint Challenge Great Britain next season.

Revealed in the TOCA paddock at Croft this weekend (September 5-6), the car - which is based on the road-going Porsche 911 GT3 - has been conceptualised as a more accessible way to go racing in various sports car racing series globally.

Since the British Touring Car Championship support category was launched in 2020, the Sprint Challenge has been exclusively for Porsche Caymans - initially for the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport and then most recently the RS Clubsport.

The 911 Challenge will be powered by a four-litre six-cylinder Boxer engine like its Cayman predecessor, but will utilise a seven-speed standard PDK gearbox and will feature driver aids such as ABS and traction control.

“The 911 Challenge brings the driving experience of the road-legal 911 GT3 into customer motorsport more directly than ever before,” said Michael Dreiser, Porsche Motorsport Head of Sales.

“Drivers can get to grips with it without a long learning curve and can complete their first kilometres on the race track in a familiar vehicle design.

“We are following a principle here that dates back to the 1960s: our customers receive a race-ready car complete with motorsport safety technology, data acquisition, spare parts support and technical documentation.”

The introduction of the 911 Challenge means that both factory-backed Porsche championships will feature new cars in 2027, with the latest iteration of the 911 Cup car being adopted for the Carrera Cup Great Britain.

Drivers and teams that are interested in competing with the new car in the Sprint Challenge Great Britain will be able to begin placing order on September 25th.
