The TCR concept was launched in 2014 with the aim of creating a globally accessible form of touring car racing based around production vehicles. The formula quickly spread internationally, with TCR racing now taking place across more than 30 countries.
TCR UK made its debut at Silverstone in April 2018, becoming part of the growing family of TCR championships around the world. The championship joined the BARC's racing portfolio in 2025, bringing TCR UK together with other major BARC categories including the Milltek Civic Cup and VAG Trophy.
